In 1992 startte Marc Appeltans met Freelance Camera bvba. Je kon hem boeken voor de meest uiteenlopende opdrachten en dit is nooit veranderd. Deze enorme diversiteit aan opdrachten typeert Marc en is waarschijnlijk de enige constante geweest tot nu toe.  4 jaar geleden, na dagelijks auto’s in- en uitgeladen te hebben,vond Marc een oplossing van 12 ton en 10 meter lang: al zijn materiaal en 40 kva stroomgroep in één vrachtwagen. De vrachtwagen is perfect om faciliteiten te leveren voor kleine producties en een ideale basis voor grotere projecten. Een uniek concept was geboren: zowel camera, licht, grip en stroomgroep in 1.

Na jaren mee op opdracht als assistent, studeerde Ruben half 2009 af aan het NaRaFi. Nog meer dan vroeger zijn Marc en Ruben complementair. Apart geboekt profiteert iedere partij van de kruisbestuiving van de ervaring van Marc met de frisse, digitale kijk van Ruben.

Inhouse zijn een ruim assortiment glas: een reeks Cooke lenzen, een reeks Arri high-speed lenzen, het Optex Excellence System, Pro-35, high-definition zoom lens en een reeks Canon fotolenzen. Met al deze lenzen kunnen we vrijwel elk gangbaar cameratype dienen. Voortdurende bijscholingen breiden de kennis van de meest moderne cameratypes uit. Zo volgde Marc in 2009 een cursus D-21 bij Arri in Duitsland (waar ook de nieuwe Arri camera’s werden voorgesteld) en Ruben een REDucation in Los Angeles, VS.

Freelance camera won in 2009 volgende prijzen:

• Publieksprijs Internationaal Kortfilmfestival Leuven met ‘Een kleine duw’;
• Bronzen medaille met de POS film ‘Urban Acrobat’ in de categorie ‘Sales’ en ‘Demonstration film’: International Film & Video Competition of the New York Festivals;
• Best European Short op Cinema Tous Ecrans in Genève voor ‘Gestreept’.

Marc Appeltans started Freelance Camera in 1992. Marc was and still is your man for a variety of sets. The huge diversity in assignments is typical for Marc and has probably been the only constant up to now. 4 years ago, after loading and unloading his van for the umpteenth time, Marc found a solution in a 12-tons-heavy and 10-meters-long truck: he installed all his equipment and a 40 kVa power generator in one truck. The truck is perfect for supplying facilities to small productions and an ideal basis for larger projects. A unique concept was born: the all-in-one solution for camera, light, grip and power.

After years and years of training on the job, Ruben graduated from NaRaFi in Brussels. More than before Marc and Ruben are complementary. Booked separately every party benefits the cross-pollination of Marcs experience and Rubens fresh and digital look on things.

Inhouse are a vast assortment of lenses: a series of Cooke lenses, a series of Arri high-speed lenses, Optex Excellence System, Pro-35, high-definition zoom lense and a series of Canon photo lenses. All this glass makes it possible to serve every camera type in demand. Permanent refresher courses and trainings widen the knowledge of the most modern camera types. In 2009 Marc did a D-21 course at Arri in Germany (during which the new Arri cameras were introduced) while Ruben was attending REDucation in Los Angeles, USA.

In 2009 Freelance camera won the following prizes:

• Public award at  the International Short Film Festival Leuven for ‘Een Kleine Duw’;
